Fabrication of an Aluminum Housing
Medical/Agricultural Cryogenic Cylinders Industry
In the project highlighted here, Vollrath Manufacturing Serivces was approached to fabricate a custom aluminum housing used to house medical and agricultural cryogenic cylinders. This unit was composed of 0.080” thick 3003 aluminum, manufactured utilizing a mix of production processes and advanced equipment. Our deep draw stamping capabilities were employed, as well as metal spinning, and the unit was finely shaped and smoothed with planishing techniques. A hole was pierced into the top of the part, and the entire component was subjected to a water/aqueous cleaning.
Made to exacting specifications, careful attention was paid to maintaining a precise run to run dimensional consistency, important for the success of the necessary additional operations. Final dimensions of the upper portion were 8.5” in depth by 15.5” in diameter, with the lower section measuring 15.5” in diameter and 9.25” in depth. The housing was left with a raw/machined finish, and was thoroughly inspected for quality and accuracy with dimensional and visual methods. All processes conformed to ISO 9002 standards, as well as customer specifications as detailed in the supplied 2D CAD drawings. 150 pieces were fabricated and shipped for this project.
